Many of the alleged offenses were sexual crimes, including against children. It seems that the purpose of this display was to bolster support for the government's policy of deporting foreign nationals to the El Salvadorian prison CECOT, which is known for human rights abuses, without due process. This policy has come under fire for a number of different reasons, including the fact that there is good reason to believe that several people who were deported to the prison are innocent. I consider this policy to be a campaign of terror against Latin Americans, and the panic over pedophilia is being used to justify this terror campaign.
